The workshop is taught by Sam Kaner, and will be held April 10 and 11. The workshop is open to grassroots activists, full-time students and anyone who regularly volunteers for a community organization. - Sandy --<forwarded message>--- Date: Wed, 08 Mar 2006 16:53:24 -0800 Subject: This month's giveaway From: Duane Berger <•••@••.•••> You may not believe this, but we have decided to sponsor a FREE two-day workshop on the basics of group facilitation, open to grassroots activists, full-time students and anyone who regularly volunteers for a community organization. INTRO TO GROUP FACILITATION taught by Sam Kaner, Ph. D. April 10 - 11 Community At Work San Francisco Cost: Free Come learn the basic mechanics of how to help groups do their best thinking! Open to grassroots activists, full-time students and anyone who regularly volunteers for a community organization. This workshop is more focused on fundamentals that are not taught in our normal course. For example, we'll spend extra time practicing "stand-up skills 101"; we'll put more effort into discussing the core reasons for having a facilitator; we'll teach participants how to explain the role of facilitator to a group; and so on. Thus, we are deliberately reaching out to people who have NO prior experience facilitating, and who would probably not be able to pay for our flagship 3-day workshop. And yes, it's really free. No hidden purposes, no gimmicks. We did a similar workshop about five years ago, and it was a meaningful and satisfying experience for everyone. We're very pleased that we have the bandwidth to offer it again. If you know anyone who might be interested, please pass this along. This will fill up fast, so I'll be registering people on a first-come, first-served basis.
