Dear Greenpeace, McLibel, et al, I was very impressed with the essay "WHY SOCIAL REVOLUTION IS NECESSARY", which David Briars forwarded to the mclibel list. It describes the (anarchist) process of building up civil society outside of the political process (parties, elections, et al) better than I've ever before seen it described. Given the past failures of reform movements based on the political process, and the dire emergency we all face due to rampant elite-corporate power (fascism?), I well understand your call for this mode of action. I have only one strategic critique to offer: since the elite have for the first time since the Enlightenment -- by their neoliberal project -- totally abandoned the Western middle classes, the demographics of politics in the West have changed profoundly. I suggest that in addition to building up civil society as you suggest, it may also be possible, via election of a non-party slate of candidates, to also capture the reins of state power.
