I don't want to get into another left v/s right argument, but did Reagan belong to the "Far Left"?? He did more to amass the debt than anyone else, with his nonsensical star wars program and defense spending. Arun Mehta, B-69 Lajpat Nagar-I, New Delhi-24, India. The poster may think of marx and lenin as groucho and john, sooner than karl and vladimir...in fact, the humorless tone, as well as the intellect, leads me to believe that the person would do well to perhaps indulge in a little groucho marx and john lennon...then maybe investigate what the hell Karl Marx was talking about and stop believing idiocy like Clinton and Democrats being marxists. Of course, many people, especially leftists, know very little about marx, whose major work was an in depth analysis of capitalism, and who was dead long before the soviet revolution began. In fact, marx believed that socialism would be possible only in a developed capitalist country, like the USA. Of course, it can't happen as long as our mentality is under-developed.. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 1996 From: "•••@••.•••" <•••@••.•••> Subject: Re: a right wing viewpoint Here, its appearance compelled for the second time in a month by Mr Knauer's decanting of some typical John Bircher folklore, is a surely incomplete list of all the things, pursuits and tendencies that I'm hearing characterized as Marxist, socialistic, and socialism per se in the moral and intellectual environment of our time and place. #28 is added courtesy of Mr Knauer's sig; readers are invited to contribute absurdities from their own experience. 1. Why the hyperthyroid buttressing of right-wing dictatorships all over the Third World by our socialist leaders and their savage persecution of students who understood the Vietnam War's political realities thirty years before it pleased Robert McNamara to disclose them? Marxism is an adherence to some observations made by a man who died in 1883 and socialism a corresponding system that has so far been achieved nowhere; to say more is to aggravate the cultivated epistemological chaos that has finally resulted in a trashed generation of kids who have scarcely the equipment even to report on a book of their own choosing. The ruling class may be having fun with its semantic strategy of glorifying `family values' (never explained) while pushing policies that make a coherent family life quite unattainable for working people, but the day will come when this game rounds on you and your bogus `profit justifies all' ideology. I suggest that you hold onto that gun, Mr Knauer, and pay close attention to what your target turns out to be when the time of reckoning arrives, since I note that, for all your confusion, you do find rentier parasitism odious. valis @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ ~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~--~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~ Posted by Richard K.
