L Tesler: Andrew posting debunked

2005-09-18

Richard Moore

Friends,

I am quite happy to admit when I make a mistake. It seems the
Andrew posting is now in serious doubt.

I have not checked Larry's posting for hoax-ness, but since
I've known him well for 44 years and he's never lied to me, I'll
take his research at face value.

I find it interesting that for most of the ten years I've been
posting things, I've never had problems with Internet hoaxes
before. In the past few months it's become a real problem.
I've been caught a couple times (that I know of). 'They'
seem to be getting cleverer at fooling my credibility
antenna.

In any case, thanks to Larry for doing his homework!

all the best,
rkm

Richard,

KT Frankovich is a she, not a he, as could be discerned from
the pronouns in her piece.

KT has certainly had an interesting life: two encounters with
UFO's and E.T.-like extraterrestrials; caught in three
hurricanes just last year and one this year, two of which
wrecked her homes; that amazing Andrew incident, widely cited,
which caused "optic nerve damage". See
http://www.jerrypippin.com/UFO_Files_kt_frankovich.htm where
she can be seen wearing glasses (poor soul) and not, and where
she comments on the scientifically proven 350+ mph winds of
Andrew.

She lists her occupation as "documentary filmmaker". Her film,
Cries, http://imdb.com/title/tt0207397/, is the only film
listed under her name in http://www.imdb.com. She claims to be
the only female winner of the Gold Venus award that is "rarely
given" but has been won by Lucas and Spielberg. But the only
mentions of a "Gold Venus" award on the WWW are in material
about KT herself.

Her web site is at http://www.whereheavensmeet.com/.

Amazon carries two books that she self-published on 1/1/00--an
interesting choice of publication date. But she is psychic
after all.

One was "Where Heavens Meet"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1894368177. The
early reviews rave, the later reviews are mixed, the most
recent review challenges the authenticity of her Andrew story
(but agrees that there were more deaths than reported).

The only claim that may be true is that her other book,
Language of Souls, a coauthored collection of poetry,
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1894368002, won
a "Royal Palm Award" in 2002 given by the Florida Writers
Association, a club http://www.floridawriters.net/index.html
with (it seems) about 600 members. I am skeptical even of that
because these days, the FWA will only consider works published
in the same or the previous year. But maybe they did not have
that rule in 2002, which appears to be the first year the
award was given. The FWA web site does not list winners prior
to 2003.

One of her coauthors, David Taub, is the author of an article
on self-promotion for writers
http://www.prose-n-poetry.com/display_work/643.

The other coauthor, Ruth Solomon, managed to get a seciond
listing for the book at
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1894368045; this
one shows the pub. date as November 1999.

Although KT is referred to as a "superpoet" in one Amazon
reader review, I can find no evidence of other poetry she has
published.

The earliest-submitted four reviews of this book were posted
on Amazon before the 1/1/00 publication date, so they must
have been submitted by friends of the authors, if not
themselves. All were five star reviews.

The main Amazon review, by "a reader", reports in detail the
unmatchable 100% score achieved by this book when it won the
Royal Palm Award. Sounds like Kim Jong-Il's eleven
holes-in-one during his first golf game. The tone of the
review is pure satire.

The claimed "Pulitzer letter" nomination is vacuous. Anyone
can write a letter nominating anyone else for a Pulitzer
prize--especially a self-publisher for her own book. Remember
the "Nobel-nominated" doctor who diagnosed Terry Schiavo
http://mediamatters.org/items/200503220009.

Credible source?
