Liz Burbank: IT’S WAR – WE NEED TO ENGAGE
US imperialist war is no longer to just defeat rival nations as with previous conventional world wars. It is now a ubiquitous, total ‘constant conflict’, ‘preventive war’ against potential threats, ‘non- state actors’, ‘suspected terrorists’, to conquer the world and us.

Dave Patterson: Green Island and real democracy
Richard et al,
The recent 2-3 [cyberjournal postings] have had me nodding my head in agreement – yes, this is what Green Island is all about – describing a truly ‘social democratic’ society, which could be called Utopian, although the main meaning of ‘Utopia’ translates as ‘nowhere’, and Green Island is very much written to describe what could, I think, very easily be. I hope you will add this note to the discussion, in case others out there are as yet unaware of Green Island.

Global Research: Obama establishes official banking dictatorship
By Paul Joseph Watson and Steve Watson
Global Research, June 23, 2009
President Obama’s plan to give the privately-owned and unaccountable
Federal Reserve complete regulatory oversight across the entire U.S.
economy, which is likely to be enacted before the end of the year,
will officially herald the beginning of a new form of government in
the United States – an ultra-powerful banking dictatorship controlled
by a small gaggle of shadowy and corrupt elitists. [from article]
We are being herded into an enclosure. The enclosure contains us

sheep, and a small pack of very large and very hungry wolves. They’ve
already been taking massive bites out of us, billions and trillions at
a gulp. Now they’ve got us cornered. Change you can believe in.

David Korten: Who Really Crashed the Economy?
Korten never goes quite far enough. He says, “America’s number one problem is Wall Street—and the overpaid Wall Street casino gamblers who destroyed our economy in a reckless test of the theory that markets can self-regulate and that the unrestrained pursuit of individual greed is beneficial to society.
No, they were not testing that theory. They knew the theory was a hoax. They drilled a hole in the regulatory foundation, and then they filled it with toxic thermate. They were bold but not reckless. And they covered their tracks well enough that even Korten misunderstands the crime scene.

WSWS: The global jobs crisis
The overriding concern of President Obama and his G20 counterparts, who are about to gather in Pittsburgh, is not the rising tide of joblessness and social misery, but the profit margins and share values of the big banks and corporations. Using that measure, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Tuesday declared “the recession is very likely over at this point.”
For the vast majority of the world’s population, the economic crisis has only just begun.

The real agenda behind Obama’s health care “reform”
To the people who really count in Washington—the American ruling elite and their political representatives in both parties—Obama got down to business. Rising health care costs, including Medicare and Medicaid, were draining the national budget and making US corporations uncompetitive. Hundreds of billions would have to be wrung out of health care spending by reducing “waste and abuse” and introducing efficiencies, such as placing caps on what tests and treatments doctors could provide their patients.
Workers who choose not to (or cannot) buy insurance would be punished at a far higher rate. Under the Baucus plan, for those with incomes between 100 percent and 300 percent of the poverty level— $10,830 for an individual and $22,050 for a family of four—the penalty for not having coverage would be $750 a year per person, with a maximum penalty of $1,500 for a family.

UN reports 1 billion of the world’s people going hungry
What the UN is reporting on, whether it knows it or not, is the progress of an intentional genocide program. One sixth of the world’s population is now ‘in the extermination camps’, and millions perish there each year.  Somehow the world does not see this elephant in the room, although it does see the need to donate $5 a month to ‘save a starving child’.
Not even our socialist friends in this article see the elephant. They blame the carnage on their favorite enemy, capitalism, but this is a more specific, focused, kind of rampage.

US suspends eastern European missile shield plan
In addition to the military issues, the Obama administration is making a geopolitical move regarding the Czech and Polish bases. Washington has sought improved relations with Moscow this year, in an attempt to “reset” hostile positions developed during the Bush presidency. During talks with his Russian counterpart, Dmitri Medvedev, and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Obama reportedly recognized Moscow’s concerns over the planned missile shield bases in Eastern Europe. The US president, according to one Kremlin source, also acknowledged the “peculiarities” of Russian relations with the former Soviet republics of Ukraine and Georgia, in which Washington had organized pro-Western “color revolutions.” [ from the article]
The chess game is getting complex, as the players struggle in the in the middle game, positioning themselves for the endgame. The board, as always, is Eurasia. The Anglo-American axis is playing white, and is positioning for attack. The Sino-Russian alliance is playing black, positioning for defense.
The missile-deployment would have been a bold move, an advanced bishop pinning a defending rook. But white noticed in time a black counter move, threatening to capture one of its  own rooks. An overly bold move by white could perhaps create the conditions for a reverse colored revolution in the Ukraine. And an ‘angered bear’ black player might back up such a process with ‘invited’ forces.
White is now reconsidering its choice of moves.

Japan to split from US?
Incoming Tokyo government threatens split with US A split is emerging between the United States and Japan over the new Tokyo government’s anti-globalisation rhetoric and its threats to end a refueling agreement for US ships in support of the war in Afghanistan.
“We think that when the responsibility of governing comes about that people will appreciate, as we have every reason to believe they do, the importance of this alliance and the importance of working together on these [security] agreements,” [a Pentagon spokesman] said.
Meaning: We have our ways of changing your mind, or perhaps We’ll make an offer you can’t refuse. We’ll see. -rkm
